The O2

The O2 is a large, multipurpose entertainment venue located on the Greenwich peninsula in south east London. Originally constructed in 1999 as the Millennium Dome, it housed the Millennium Experience, a major exhibition celebrating the third Millennium. Several years after its closure, the iconic Dome was renamed the O2 Arena and became the first purpose-built music venue in London since The Royal Albert Hall in 1871.

The O2 now encompasses a state of the art live music club, an 11 screen multiplex cinema, an exhibition centre, an entire street of bars, restaurants and leisure attractions and most breathtaking of all - the 20,000 capacity O2 Arena at the heart of the venue.

The O2 was opened to the public on 24 June 2007 with an opening concert by Bon Jovi in the arena. It has since played host to the most sought after names in rock, pop and classical music including Justin Timberlake, Scissor Sisters, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Take That, Prince, The Spice Girls and Led Zeppelin.

The O2 Arena can also be transformed from a concert venue into a world class sporting arena within hours. The arena will be staging the 2009 World Gymnastics Championships as well as the gymnastics and basketball finals at the 2012 Olympics.
