The zoo is located in Battersea Park and was founded in 1951. Whilst it does not a have a large and diverse number of animals, it is particularly suited to children.
Here they can take pony rides and in a special contact area can interact with animals. Some of the animals kept here include meerkats, otters, monkeys, pigs, birds and reptiles.
Battersea Park covers 200-acres on the south bank of the River Thames and was opened in 1853 as the second non-royal London park. The most famous feature of the park is the Japanese Peace Pagoda, which was built in 1895. It was built by Japanese Buddhists and contains 4 golden Buddhas surrounded by a Portland stone Pagoda. To add atmosphere there are some beautiful Canadian fir trees planted around it.
From April to September the zoo is open daily from 10am until 5pm. For the remainder of the year, it is open at weekends only from 11am until 3pm.
