The Courtauld Institute Gallery is situated in Somerset House, The Strand and are named after Samuel Courtauld who on his death in 1947 left his private art collection to the University of London. The permanent collection ranges from the thirteenth century to the present day.
On display in one of the biggest and finest Impressionist and post-Impressionist collections Old Masters found in London are works by Van Gogh, Renoir, Rubens, Cezanne and others. Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh with its 500 paintings,26,000 drawings and prints;and significant collections of medieval, Renaissance and modern sculpture, ceramics, metalwork, textiles and furniture.
Other artists of different eras are also included. Not all works come from Courtauld’s collection which has been added to over the years.
Monday to Saturday from 10am until 6pm. Sunday, Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday from midday until 6pm. Last admission is at 5.15pm.
The Courtauld Institute Gallery is located within the North Block of Somerset House, situated at the Aldwych end of the Strand close to Waterloo Bridge. The entrance to the gallery is located on the right beneath the triple-arched main gateway of Somerset House which leads off the Strand.
