Located in Whitehall, this is a grand memorial to those Commonwealth citizens who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1919 as a temporary structure but was completed in marble in 1920 for commemoration of the Armistice.
Originally intended to honor British and Commonwealth soldiers who died in World War I, a dedication was added in 1946 for those who died in World War II.
On Remembrance Sunday, the Sunday closest to November 11, wreaths are laid at the Cenotaph by the Queen and Prime Minister.
