Designed and constructed by James Gibbs from 1721-6, St. Martin-in-the-Fields combines elements from Roman classical architecture, Andrea Palladio, and Sir Christopher Wren and has been the inspiration for much church architecture around the world.
It is also the parish church for Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family. In addition to normal services, the church also hosts lunchtime concerts on selected weekdays.
In the crypt, there is an art gallery and the London Brass Rubbing Center where souvenir rubbings can be made of accurate replicas of medieval monumental brasses.
St Martin In the Fields is at the north eastern corner of Trafalgar Square. Take any Strand or Charing Cross Road Bus and you will pass the door. Take the underground to Charing Cross or Leicester Square and follow the signs to the National Gallery.
