Hidden within the Newington Library complex, the Cuming Museum houses one of London’s finest local historical collections tracing Southwark’s history from the Romans to the present day and detailing London legends and superstitions.

The collection was started between 1780 and 1900 by Richard Cuming and his son Henry Cuming. Between them they collected over 100,000 objects from all over the world. After Henry's death, the collection was left to the people of Southwark and the museum was opened in 1906.
